Lonliness - Part 2
July 14, 2020

Have you ever noticed that loneliness sometimes has nothing to do with being alone? You can be completely surrounded by people and noise and chaos and feel completely alone and then be by yourself in the quiet of your bedroom and feel content and loved by those that don’t happen to be there at the moment?

As the parent of a teenager, at any point in time you could be in the thick of your teenager's friends only to have them all vanish to another teen's house in the blink of an eye depending on who has the best junk food at the moment!

So it’s not even their presence that determines whether or not you feel alone. It’s how you handle the struggle of raising them that determines that.

Sometimes we need to be alone physically so that we can get our heads around what we are trying to do at the moment. Even Jesus Himself needed time away from everyone so that He could focus on the necessary. This is something thing that Jesus did that sometimes we neglect to do. During those times that He retreated from everyone, He spent it talking to God. And then He listened.

So much of parenting seems to be done in the moment and then we are left with questions of whether or not we did it right! If we will take some time to be alone with God each day, asking Him what our parenting should look like, then we will spend much less time feeling as if we are alone in it. If this is unfamliar to you, start small. A few minutes a day seeking God's word for your life, reading his word in the bible, reading a devotional online, asking God to tell you whatever message he has for you this day. Practice listening for God's voice. When you do, you'll know that you are never alone.

Psalm 139:7-10

“Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.”

Isaiah 43:1-2

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.”

Matthew 11:28

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
